DURHAM, N.C. – Head baseball coach Tom Walter will spend time this summer working with USA Baseball as a coach at the 2016 17U National Team Development Program (NTDP), USA Baseball announced on Thursday.

The NTDP offers athletes an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball staff to better prepare for a future national team experience. The program includes skill development sessions, off-field education seminars and intrasquad Stars vs. Stripes games to assist in the development of the athletes as both a player and a person.

Walter is serving as the manager of the Stars team. He will be assisted by Gregg Ritchie, head coach at George Washington, and Gerald Laird, a former MLB veteran and member of the 1997 USA Baseball 18U National Team and the 2003 COPABE Olympic Qualifying Team. St. Louis Cardinals scout Ricky Meinhold will advise the pitching staff.

The group will lead and evaluate a minimum of 38 athletes that were selected from the USA Baseball National Team Identification Series (NTIS) in 2015 and from the 17U National Team Championships in Arizona and Florida this summer. The 2016 17U NTDP Week will take place in Chicago from July 18-22.

The opposing Stripes squad will be led by Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb.
