
Deacs Recognized by ITA for Academic Success

2016 ITA All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team has been honored as a 2016 ITA All-Academic team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced. Additionally, Samantha Asch, Emma Davis, Luisa Fernandez, Kasey Gardiner, Kimmy Guerin and Andrea Retolaza Andrade were named ITA Scholar-Athlete award winners.
The Demon Deacons were one of only two ACC teams with six ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner with a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year. She also has to have been enrolled at her present school for at least two semesters.
Gardiner earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status for the third time, while it was the second honor for Fernandez. The Demon Deacons were recognized as an ITA All-Academic team for the third year in a row.
On the court, the Deacons ended the season at No. 29 for their highest final ranking in nine years. The Deacs' 19 wins were their most since 2002 and their seventh-place ACC finish was their best since 2007. The team also appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
