ELON, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's tennis closed out its first fall tournament of the 2016 season at the Elon Invitational on Sunday morning, posting a stellar 8-1 record along the way.
To finish action at Elon, the Demon Deacon duo of Alexis Franco and Courtney Meredith dropped the Gold Doubles draw final to Alya Mourad and Alisa Soloveva of Winthrop, 8-6. The loss marked the only defeat in singles or doubles for the Deacs on opening weekend.
On the singles side, Franco and Meredith each won three matches on the way to being named co-champs of the Gold singles bracket. The final was not played because two players from the same school reached the draw championship.
Wake Forest returns to action on Sept. 23 when it starts play in the Furman Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina.
