
Mansouri Claims Win at Cary Challenger

CARY, N.C. – A trio of Demon Deacons competed in the qualifying draw of the Cary Challenger over the weekend.
Skander Mansouri picked up Wake Forest's lone win of the weekend, while Dennis Uspensky and Alan Gadjiev fell in the opening round.
Mansouri kicked off the weekend with a first-round victory over Tyler Mercier, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, on Friday.
On Saturday, he fell in a back-and-forth affair to Strong Kirchheimer, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2. Heading into his junior year at Northwestern, Kirchheimer is ranked in the top 75 among NCAA singles players by the ITA.
A redshirt freshman this year, Gadjiev fell to Arturo Schmidt, a freshman at North Carolina, 6-4, 6-3.
Uspensky fell by a 6-2, 6-4 margin to Andrew Carter, the No. 906-ranked singles player.
Wake Forest's first fall collegiate event is the Duke Invitational, set for Sept. 16-18.
