
No. 11 Wake Forest Shuts Out Davidson, 6-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Demon Deacons notched a season-high 22 shots in their 6-0 victory over Davidson Tuesday night at Kentner Stadium.
Wake Forest (4-2) was in control of the game from the very beginning. Madi Julius recorded her second goal of the season in the in the sixth minute to put the Deacons up to an early 1-0. The goals kept coming as Sarah Thornhill and Jule Grashoff recorded their second and fourth goals, respectively, in the 11th and 15th minute to quickly up the lead to 3-0. The Deacon defense was stellar as well, allowing only one shot by Davidson (1-4) in the first half.
The second half was much of the same with the Deacs in full control. Mackenzie Adams landed a goal with the assist from Jessy Silfer and Jule Grashoff just three minutes into the half. Emily Conroe recorded her second goal off a rebound in the 65th minute while Nicola Pluta finished off the offense with a penalty shot in the in the 67th minute. Once again, the Wildcats were held to just one shot.
Wake Forest recorded a season-high 22 shots, with 16 of those coming on goal. Despite the stellar offensive showing from the Deacs, Davidson goalie Bean Rodriguez managed to save nine of those shots.
Nicola Pluta has now scored in four-straight games, dating back to the Sept. 2 game at Ohio State. Pluta also led the Deacs with seven shots, three of which were on goal, while teammate Jule Grashoff recorded six shots with five on goal.
The 6-0 margin of victory was the highest by the Deacs since Oct. 2, 2015 when they beat Appalachian State, 7-1.
The Demon Deacons will continue play on Sunday, Sept. 18 against ACC foe, No. 1 Syracuse. The game is a special one, as it is the annual Maria Whitehead Day, which celebrates the life and fight of former field hockey player Maria Whitehead, who passed away from melanoma in 2006. The game will begin at 12 p.m. in Kentner Stadium and can also be seen on ACC Network Extra.
