WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest cruised past Middle Tennessee State, 3-0, on Tuesday at LJVM Coliseum.
The win was the second consecutive sweep for Wake Forest (3-5).
Middle Tennessee State (2-8) came out fighting, keeping the first set within reach. Two service aces and five straight serves from Hanna Lee gave the Deacs a 17-12 edge and, ultimately, the set. Caroline Rassenfoss led Wake Forest offensively in the first set with six kills on only one error and a solo block. Caitlyn Della also had a stellar set, recording three kills and no errors, totaling a .750 hitting percentage. Della would go on to record a perfect match, with five kills and no errors. The Deacs took the set, 25-20.
The second set proved to be much of the same for Wake Forest. Caroline Rassenfoss recorded another five kills, no errors and a service ace. The Demon Deacons remained in control the entire set and cruised to a 25-13victory.
The third, and final, set was all Wake Forest, who won 25-10. Caroline Rassenfoss recorded her final five blocks of the match, bringing her total to 16. Despite being one kill one shy of her career high, her .636 attack percentage on the night was the best of her career.
Jayda Howard recorded her first collegiate ace in her first appearance since the season opener at Radford.
The Blue Raiders ended up with a .000 hitting percentage, recording 22 errors and 22 kills. Meanwhile, the Deacons swung their highest hitting percentage of the season at .370 with their 36 kills and nine errors.
The Demon Deacons will host the Black and Gold Invitational Sept. 16 and 17 where they will take on Wofford Friday night and High Point and Charlotte on Saturday.
