The Matchup
• Wake Forest heads into ACC play this weekend, looking to stay undefeated in 2016 against No. 13-ranked Clemson on Friday at 7 p.m. inside Spry Stadium on ACC Network Extra.
Wake Forest Storylines
• By outscoring opponents at a margin of 19-2 through the first eight games, Wake Forest is 8-0 for the third time in program history, and the first time since 2002. The program's best-ever start was a 9-0-0 mark in 2002.
• In the Deacs' last game against Davidson on Sept. 11, the team took a total of 16 shots on goal, most in a game since 2004. That total was led by Caroline Wootten (four), Sarah Teegarden (three) and Maddie Huster (three).
• With Virginia's loss to Georgetown last weekend, the Demon Deacons are the only team in the league heading into ACC play unbeaten and untied. Wake Forest is one of six teams in the country without a loss or draw, including one of just two from the Power Five conferences. The others include Central Michigan, Northwestern, Princeton, South Florida and UC Santa Barbara.
• Wake Forest went unbeaten in non-conference play for just the second time in program history. The Deacs also accomplished the feat in 2013.
• The Deacs rank eighth nationally in goals-against average, ninth in shutout percentage, ninth in shots on goal per game, 12th in assists, 15th in save percentage, 17th in shots per game and 19th in points. Those totals are led by keeper Lindsay Preston, who ranks in the top 15 individually in each category, as well.
Opponent and Series History
• Clemson enters the contest with a 5-2 overall record, and is coming off a pair of wins last weekend over High Point, 4-1, and Nebraska, 5-2.
• Catrina Atanda leads the offensive attack with five goals, while Claire Wagner has added three and Emily Byorth has a pair. Two Tigers have split time in goal: Sancy MacIver is 2-0 with a .800 save percentage and 0.43 goals-against average in three games, and Kailen Sheridan is 3-2 with a .684 save percentage and 1.29 goals-against average in five games.
• Clemson leads the all-time series by a 13-9-4 margin. The Deacs won seven straight from 2007-13, but the Tigers rebounded for a draw in 2014 and win in 2015.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest continues ACC play on Thursday, Sept. 22, traveling to No. 3 Florida State for a 7 p.m. contest.
