COLUMBUS, OH. - Wake Forest field hockey defeated Ohio State 4-2 in its first game at the Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio on Friday.

The Deacs came out on fire and recorded four goals in the first half. Karlee Spirit got Wake Forest on the board in the 15th minute, her first goal of the season. Nicola Pluta recorded the second goal off a penalty corner with assists from Megan Anderson and Emily Conroe. In the 23rd minute, Jule Grashoff recorded a goal of her own and was quickly followed in the 24th with another goal from Thornhill. Megan Anderson recorded two assists while Heather Wiley recorded the assist on the first goal by Spirit. Ohio State's Maddy Humphrey recorded the lone goal for the Buckeyes in the 30th minute.

Morgan Kile would score the second goal for the Buckeyes on a penalty corner in the 50th minute to cap the second-half offense for both squads.

Wake Forest (2-1) out-shot Ohio State (0-3) 21 to five in the game with 12 of those shots being on goal. Jule Grashoff has now scored in all three games this season while Pluta, Thornhill and Spirit recorded their first goals of the season. Cat O'Connor managed just one save in the offense-heavy game.

Wake Forest will finish play in the Buckeye Invitational Sunday, Sept. 4 against the Indiana Hoosiers at 12 p.m. The Deacs then trek to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face ACC opponent North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
