Wake Forest Hits the Road to Begin ACC Play
Wake Forest hits the road for a four-game, all-ACC roadtrip. The trip starts at Duke on Sept. 21 in Durham, N.C. then moves to Virginia on Sept. 23 in Charlottesville, Va.
The Wednesday match against Duke will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest went 1-2 in the Black and Gold Invitational Sept, 16-17. Kylie Long and Caroline Wolf were both selected to the All-Tournament Team.
The Deacs started the tournament with a five-set thriller against the Wofford Terriers. Kylie Long led the Deacs with 17 kills and a .316 attack percentage though the Terriers ultimately took the match, 3-2.
Wake Forest dropped their next match to High Point, 3-1. The Deacs struggled throughout the match, recording their second-lowest attack percentage of the season.
The Demon Deacons finally secured a win in their last match of the tournament against Charlotte, 3-1. Hanna Lee, Caroline Rassenfoss and Kylie Long recorded 47 of the Deacs' 62 kills.
Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke is coming off of a 3-2 win over Wilmington.
Senior Jordan Tucker is leading the Blue Devils with 109 kills and an impressive .309 attack percentage while teammate Jamie Stivers has tallied 100 kills and 11 service aces.
The Blue Devils have a .212 attack percentage on the season while holding opponents to a .169 percentage, thanks to their 1.90 blk/set average.
Duke has five freshmen this year while returning 11.
Scouting the Cavaliers
Virginia went 0-3 in the Baylor Classic Sept. 16-17. Their losses included Baylor, Washington State and College of Charleston.
The Cavaliers are averaging just 10.4 kills per set, compared to an opponent average of 13.5. Senior Haley Kole leads the squad with 120 kills, a 2.79/set average.
The Cavaliers are strong at the net, with a 2.4 block/set average, compared to Wake's 1.84/set average. Freshman Kiley Banker has recorded 37 blocks this season.
Next Up
Next week, the Deacs will travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals Sept. 30. They will then head to South Bend to take on Notre Dame on Oct. 2.
The Deacs then return home for a six-game homestand that will take place Oct. 7-23.
