Deacs Open Play at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Wake Forest women's tennis opened play in its second tournament of the fall season on Friday night in the Furman Invitational with seven victories over singles and doubles action.
The Demon Deacons got victories on the day from sophomore Emma Davis in Singles Flight 2 and Luisa Fernandez and Joanna Zalewski in Singles Flight 4 while also earning wins from Zalewski and Courtney Meredith and Fernandez and Chandler Carter in Doubles Flight 3. To cap the day, Wake Forest also picked up a win from Davis and Samantha Asch in Doubles Flight 2.
In singles action, Davis earned a victory over Tennessee's Eve Repic 6-3, 6-2 to advance in the winner's bracket. In Singles Flight 5, both Fernandez and Zalewski played their ways in to the winner's bracket as Fernandez topped Johanna Silva of Tennessee 6-0, 7-5 and Zalewski topped Cassandra Vasquez of North Carolina 6-4, 6-1.
On the doubles side, Asch and Davis picked up a win over Katarina Kozarov and Danni Vines of Furman by the score of 8-2 after falling in the first round matchup to a duo from Vanderbilt. Meredith and Zalewski picked up two wins to advance to the final of Doubles Flight 3 with an 8-5 win over Furman's Karlee Bryde and Hannah Ferrett and an 8-6 win over Tennessee's Ashley Bongart and Ariadna Riley.
Wake Forest continues play tomorrow morning on Day 2 of the Furman Invitational.
