Davis, Zalewski Advance to Singles Championships at Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sophomores Emma Davis and Joanna Zalewski picked up singles victories Saturday at the Furman Fall Classic to win their ways into draw finals. Overall on day two of the tournament, Wake Forest women's tennis picked up five victories across singles and doubles play.
After topping Eve Repic on Friday of Tennessee, Davis earned a three-set victory over Marie Leduc of Clemson by the score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to reach Sunday's final. There, she will take on Madison Harrison of Mississippi State. In Singles Flight 5, Zalewski topped Sara Lizariturry of Mississippi State by the score of 6-1, 6-1 to reach Sunday's final against Emma Kurtz of Vanderbilt.
Elsewhere in singles play, Kimmy Guerin earned a win over Sadie Hammond of Tennessee in Singles Flight 1 by the score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Chandler Carter also picked up her first collegiate victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Andrea Fernandez of Florida State in Singles Flight 4.
On the doubles side, Carter and Luisa Fernandez marked the only Wake Forest duo to win a match Saturday as the pair topped Ashley Bongart and Arianda Riley of Tennessee by the score of 8-2 to claim third place in Doubles Flight 3.
On Sunday, Davis and Zalewski will highlight action as both go for their draw titles at 9 a.m. The Deacs are looking to finish the Furman Fall Classic on a high night before hosting the Wake Forest Invitational next weekend from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
