The Matchup
• Wake Forest takes on its third-straight top-25 ACC foe, traveling to in-state rival NC State on Sunday at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
Wake Forest Storylines
• Wake Forest is coming off its first two losses of the season, most recently a 3-0 defeat at the hands of No. 2 Florida State. The Seminoles broke a scoreless halftime tie with three goals in a span of 3:09 in the second half to claim the victory.
• Two Demon Deacons are averaging at least a point per game: Maddie Huster (5 goals, 3 assists, 13 points) and Bayley Feist (4g, 2 a, 10 pts). Peyton Perea (3g, 6 pts), Caroline Wootten (1g, 3a, 5 pts), Jenna Romano (2g, 4 pts), Sarah Medina (1g, 2a, 4 pts) and Maddie Brock (1g, 2a, 4 pts) also have at least four points apiece.
• Wake Forest went unbeaten in non-conference play for just the second time in program history. The Deacs also accomplished the feat in 2013.
• In the nation, the Deacs rank 21st in shots on goal per game (8.7), 23rd in shutout percentage (.600), 24th in winning percentage (.800), 29th in assists (20), 35th in shots per game (17.3), 36th in points (60), 39th in goals (20), and 41st in goals-against average (0.72).
Opponent and Series History
• NC State enters the game with a 7-3 overall record, including 1-1 in the ACC. The Wolfpack opened conference action with a 1-0 win over No. 7 North Carolina before falling to No. 24 Notre Dame by the same score.
• Jackie Stengel, younger sister of Wake Forest great Katie Stengel, leads the team with 11 points and five goals, but recently suffered an injury and missed the last two games. Michaella van Maanen and Tziarra King have four goals apiece for the Wolfpack. In goal, Sydney Wootten has a 7-3 record, .810 save percentage and 0.83 goals-against average to go along with four shutouts.
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series, 16-6-1. The Deacs went unbeaten from 1998 through 2012 (15-0-1), but NC State snapped the skid in 2013. Wake Forest won in 2014 and the teams did not meet a year ago.
• The Deacs are playing a ranked Wolfpack team (No. 23 in Soccer America poll) for the first time since they were eighth in the country in 1995.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest closes out its three-game ACC road swing, traveling to Miami for a 2 p.m. game on October 2.
