WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team started its spring season with a pair of 7-0 victories over the College of Charleston Cougars and the Winthrop Eagles. The last time the Deacs opened their spring season with a pair of 7-0 sweeps was on Jan. 19, 2015.

Wake Forest 7, College of Charleston 0

The Deacs got off to a hot start in doubles against the College of Charleston (0-1) and kept the momentum going into singles. Emma Davis and Chandler Carter were first to walk off the doubles court, winning 6-0. Following them on the No. 1 court were Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko, winning 6-1. Finally, Courtney Meredith and Alexis Franco finished their match with a 6-1 victory.

Going into singles play, Guerin, ranked 33rd in the country, got the Demon Deacons started by winning 6-2, 6-1 on court No. 1. Ulyashchenko finished her match shortly after Guerin, winning 6-1, 6-2. On the No. 6 court, Luisa Fernandez found herself a victory by winning the match 6-2, 6-1.

The Deacs continued their win streak with a 6-0, 6-1 victory from Samantha Asch at the No. 5 singles spot. Closing out the morning session was 61st-ranked Emma Davis. Davis went down 6-4 in the first and closed out the hard-fought second set with a 6-4 victory, sending her to a 10-point tiebreak. Davis never trailed in the tiebreak on her way to a 10-4 win.

Wake Forest 7, Winthrop 0

Coming off a 7-0 victory against the College of Charleston, the Deacs carried the momentum into the afternoon to defeat the Winthrop Eagles (0-1). Starting at No. 3 doubles were Asch and Zalewski who won their match 6-2. Playing at No. 2 doubles, Davis and Carter were able to secure the doubles point for Wake Forest with a 6-4 victory. Guerin and Ulyashchenko were tested in the No. 1 doubles spot, but came out victorious by winning 7-6 (3).

Guerin was first off the court in singles at No. 1, winning 6-3, 6-1. Shortly following Guerin was Davis at the No. 2 spot, claiming her match 6-2, 6-1. Asch played at the No. 6 spot against the Eagles and cruised to a victory 6-1, 6-0, clinching the win for Wake Forest.

Joanna Zalewski saw her first singles action at the No. 4 spot. Zalewski went on to win her match 6-1, 6-2. Carter won her match confidently at the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-1. Lastly, Ulyashchenko finished a hard-fought match 7-5, 7-6 (8).

Guerin, Davis, and Ulyashchenko all finished the day of competition 4-0.
