Deacs Fall to No. 19 LSU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team continued its road trip for the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Demon Deacons opened ITA play against No. 19 LSU, ultimately dropping a 4-0 decision.
The Deacs (3-2) had a slow start to their morning in doubles play. The duo of Chandler Carter and Emma Davis were the first ones off the court at the No. 2 doubles position, losing 6-2. Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko were given the task of facing the No. 27 doubles team in the country, but were unable to pull off the upset, falling 6-4.
The No. 3 doubles match never had a chance to finish before doubles play was called. Samantha Asch and Joanna Zalewski trailed, 5-4, before moving to singles play.
At the No. 3 singles court, Ulyashchenko faced No. 83 Ryann Foster. Ulyashchenko was first off the court but came up short losing 6-2, 6-2. Next to follow was No. 33 Guerin on court No. 1 as she lost her match, 6-4, 6-2. LSU (3-0) found their way to clinch the match at the No. 4 court where Zalewski fell, 7-5, 6-2.
No. 61 Davis was in the middle of her third set at No. 2 singles when the match was called. Davis went down 6-1 in the first set but found a way to rally back in the second set, winning 6-3. When the match was called in the third set, Davis was trailing 3-2. Carter was also unable to finish her match on court No. 4. After losing the first set 6-3, Carter was leading 5-4 in the second set as the match was called. Asch nearly got the Deacs their first point of the match as she was leading 6-5 in the second set after winning the first set 6-3.
Wake Forest returns to action to close out play at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday, Jan. 28. The Deacs will play against either Virginia or Ole Miss at 10 a.m.
