CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Wake Forest Women's Tennis team split its ITA Kickoff Weekend 1-1 with a win over Virginia and a loss to No. 19 LSU. After falling to LSU the day before, the Deacs (4-2) rallied their way to a 4-0 victory over the Cavaliers (1-2) on Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Demon Deacons started off on the wrong foot at No. 1 doubles. The pair of Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko fell, 6-2, making this the only Wake Forest loss of the match.

However, on the No. 3 doubles court, Samantha Asch and Joanna Zalewski were able to come out victorious, 6-4, over their opponents. With the doubles scored tied, 1-1, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on court No. 2. Chandler Carter and Emma Davis found themselves battling to secure the doubles point for Wake Forest. Despite the challenge, Carter/Davis triumphed in their tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), to put the Deacs up, 1-0, heading into singles play.

Playing at the No. 6 singles spot, Asch got the Deacs off to a quick start winning, 6-0, 6-1. Shortly after, Carter found herself a win, 6-2, 6-3, on the No. 5 singles court to give Wake a 3-0 lead in the match.

No. 33 Guerin found her first win of the weekend on the first singles court, defeating her opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Guerin's victory clinched the match for the Demon Deacons.

Davis found herself in a top 100 matchup on the No. 2 singles court. No. 61 Davis lost the first set, 7-6 (1), to No. 79 Rosie Johanson before battling back to a 5-2 lead in the second set as the match was called. Ulyashchenko did not get a chance to finish with a victory as the match was called before a winner could be determined. Ulyashchenko won the first set, 6-4, but was trailing in the second set, 4-2.

Next up the Deacs head to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale. First serve is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3 at 5:00 p.m.
