Deacs Open ACC Play On The Road
• Wake Forest rings in 2017 and the start of ACC play on Thursday, Jan. 5, as the Deacs go on the road to take on Notre Dame.
• The Deacs matched their best nonconference start under head coach Jen Hoover, completing the opening portion of the season at 9-4.
• Wake Forest is looking to pick up its first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 22/24 Syracuse on March 3, 2015.
Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons closed out nonconference play on Dec. 31, as the Deacs fell to JMU, 83-76, on New Year's Eve.
• All five starters scored in double figures for Wake Forest, the second time this season that five players scored 10 or more points in a game. Elisa Penna led the way with 18 points while Ariel Stephenson (17), Alex Sharp (12), Milan Quinn (12) and Amber Campbell (11) all added at least 10 points.
• Quinn also added 16 rebounds to collect her fifth double-double of the season. The senior how has 16 career double-doubles, tied for fourth-most in program history.
Scouting The Irish
• Notre Dame split a pair of conference games to open ACC play and sit at 13-2 overall, 1-1 in ACC play. In the latest polls, the Irish are No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the AP Top 25.
• The Irish fell to NC State, 70-62, in its first ACC contest before rebounding to down Georgia Tech, 55-38, its last time out.
• Brianna Turner paces Notre Dame as she leads the team in both scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg). Arike Ogunbowale (14.7 ppg) and Marina Mabrey (12.5 ppg) also average double figures in scoring for the Irish while Kathryn Westbeld ranks second on the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest.
• Muffet McGraw is in her 30th season at the helm of the Irish, compiling a career record of 745-225.
Next Time Out
• The Demon Deacons return home for their ACC home opener on Sunday, Jan. 8, as the Deacs welcome NC State to town for an in-state showdown. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on RSN.
