Wake Forest Storylines:
- Wake Forest sits at 10-10 (2-6 ACC) so far this season. The team's 10 wins eclipses last year's win total (nine).
- Senior outside hitter Kylie Long has enjoyed an outstanding senior season. Long leads the Deacs with 251 kills and is second on the team with 133 digs.
- Senior libero Caroline Wolf continues to move up the Demon Deacon record books. In the team's match against Syracuse on Oct. 1, Wolf moved into second place in program history in career digs. She needs just 126 more to tie the school record.
- The Deacs have been strong defensively in 2017. They are fifth in the ACC in opponents hitting percentage (.193) and allow the third fewest assists per set in the league (10.68).
Scouting the Opponents:
- The Hokies are under the direction of first-year head coach Jill Wilson. The team sits at 1-7 in league play, with their lone win being a 3-1 victory on Sept. 27 at Virginia.
- The Cavaliers are also in their first season under a new head coach, as Aaron Smith was promoted for the 2017 season. Virginia is 4-15 overall and winless in eight ACC matches this season. The Cavaliers did force Miami to five sets in Coral Gables on Sept. 24.
Series History:
- Virginia Tech has taken 31 of the 43 all-time meetings between the two programs.
- The Hokies have won 17 of the 18 matches played in Blacksburg, with the last Wake Forest win coming on Sept. 23, 1980.
- The Demon Deacons have defeated the Cavaliers three of the last four times the teams have met.
- The Deacs beat Virginia twice last season, including a 3-1 win in Charlottesville on Sept. 23, 2016.
Looking Ahead:
- The Demon Deacons conclude their longest road trip of the season, as they head South for matches at Clemson and Georgia Tech. The Deacs face the Tigers on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. before an Oct. 29 trip to Atlanta to face the Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m.
