ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team finished play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate with Sunday's final round. The Demon Deacons shot a 1-over 289 to finish in third place at 22-under for the tournament, which featured four of the top five teams in the nation.
No. 11 Wake Forest held the tournament's 36-hole lead but were eclipsed by third-ranked Oklahoma State(27-under) and Texas (24-under) during the final round.
"It was not the way we wanted to finish after we led most of the day," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We weren't as sharp today for whatever reason and the conditions were a little tougher. There are some things we need to work on, but we are happy with this team. It is nice to feel disappointed to finish third at an event with this kind of field. The end result wasn't what we were looking for, but Oklahoma State played a very fine round today and we congratulate them."
Will Zalatoris posted a fourth place finish to lead the Demon Deacons, shooting a final round 70 to end the tournament at 10-under. Paul McBride, Cameron Young and Eric Bae all shot 1-over rounds of 73 on Sunday to round out the Wake Forest scoring four. Marco Steyn, who posted career-low rounds of 69 and 65 to open the tournament had a 78 to finish the event T-23rd at 4-under.
The Demon Deacons close out the fall portion of their schedule at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, held Oct. 29-31 on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
