
Deacs Finish Competition at Liberty Elite Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va.— The Demon Deacons wrapped up another meet weekend with 22 top-10 finishes, 12 of which were top-five, at the Liberty Elite Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
Alva Hicks, Andrea Vahoua and Jessica Molina kicked off the weekend Friday night with the Weight Throw. Hicks took fourth with a best toss of 18.28m (59' 11.75") while Vahoua took fifth and Molina finished 10th.
Also in the field, Alexandria Florent finished second in the high jump after clearing the 1.67m bar and Amy Collins finished sixth with a cleared height of 1.62m. Jordan Banks took seventh in the long jump with a best jump of 5.33m, tied for a personal best, while Tesia Kempski finished ninth in the pole vault after clearing the 3.50m bar.
On the track, Hunter Roberts took first in the 60m Hurdle Prelims with a time of 8.55, just .01 shy of her personal best set last weekend at the Camel City Invitational. She would move on to finish second overall with a finals time of 8.60. Also in the 60m Hurdles, Amy Collins took 11th with a time of 9.37 while Jordan Banks finished 14th at 9.61, a new personal best. Roberts finished 20th in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.83, also .01 shy of her personal best set last season while Sarah Johnson finished 24th in the 200m Dash with a time of 25.82 to wrap up the sprints.
In the middle-distance events, Maya Hinton finished second in the 500m Run with a time of 1:19.40 while Emma Gallagher finished third at 1:19.63. Lara-Ann Schwede finished fifth in the 800m Run with a time of 2:13.25 while Harouche finished ninth at 2:16.44.
For the distance events, Ellie Abrahamson took the lone event title of the weekend in the 3000m Run with a personal best time of 9:31.88 while teammates Cate Allen finished sixth at 10:06.43 and Beatrice Boylan placed eighth with 10:07.97. Isabelle Harouche took third in the Mile with a time of 4:59.00, a new personal best that replaced her mark of 5:50.92 set this season. Jenna Truedson took ninth in the run with a time of 5:05.22.
The 4x400m Relay team consisting of Hinton, Collins, Johnson and Banks finished third with a final time of 3:55.17 to round out the women's events.
On the men's side, Angelos Vasileiou took second in the mile with a time of 4:13.29, seven seconds faster than his previous mark of 4:20.69 set at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational while Harry Warnick took fifth in the event with a time of 4:17.48, three seconds faster than his previous mark.
Craig Corti finished third in the 3000m run with a time of 8:19.32 while Alexander Giacco and Mitchell Dyer finished sixth and 12th, respectively.
After this weekend, the Deacs will split up for the final time this indoor season to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. and the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. Both meets will be held on Feb. 18. The Deacs then prepare for the ACC Indoor Championships that will be held Feb. 23-25 in South Bend, Ind.
