LOS CABOS, Mexico – The Wake Forest men's golf team completed a strong showing at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate with Tuesday's final round at the Querencia Golf Club. The Demon Deacons shot 11-under during the third round to finish T-3rd at the event, which featured 10 of the nation's top 30 squads.
Oklahoma State won the event at 29-under, with Baylor the runner-up at 19-under. The Deacs tied Washington for third at 7-under for the event.
Will Zalatoris shot a bogey-free 3-under 68 on Tuesday to finish the tournament T-7th at 6-under. Paul McBride had the low round of the day for Wake Forest with a 4-under 67. He ended the tournament T-11th at 5-under.
Lee Detmer shot even par for the tournament after a final round 70. He finished T-25th for the event. Cameron Young had his best round of the tournament with a 3-under 68 Tuesday to end the event at 5-over.
"We had a very nice day today," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We had four guys under par and to shoot 11-under on the last day of an event is always good. This was an NCAA caliber field, so a third place finish despite a bad second round is very solid. It was a good week and we showed improvement all around."
The Deacs will return to action Mar. 11-12 with the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
