WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kylie Long and Caroline Rassenfoss have been named to the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, the league office announced Thursday morning.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
A junior from Plano, Texas, Long started in all 31 matches this past season. Her team-leading 447 kills in 2016 moved her to third in program history for the most career kills. She was named an ACC Co-Player of the week Oct. 3 for her back-to-back double-doubles against Louisville and Notre Dame where she totaled 45 kills and 21 digs. Long is a communication major.
Rassenfoss, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, played in all 31 matches for the Deacs her freshman season. She totaled 420 kills, good for second on the team, while adding 26 service aces, 132 digs and 45 blocks. She was named ACC Freshman of the Week Sept. 26 for her career performances against Duke and Virginia while her 26 kills against Virginia were the most by a Deac in a single match this season. Rassenfoss topped off a solid freshman campaign with All-ACC Freshman Team honors. She has not declared a major.
"We're so proud of Ky and Rass," said head coach Bill Ferguson. "Our motto, #OurWay, is all about the idea of one's best effort to be above reproach academically, athletically and socially. This award validates their fine effort in that journey."
