PALM CITY, Fla. – The Wake Forest men's golf team recorded it second consecutive victory and third win of the season by closing out a win at the Valspar Collegiate during Tuesday's final round at the Floridian. The Demon Deacons shot a final-round 4-over 288 to finish at 7-over, one shot ahead of Georgia Tech.

In an event that featured eight of the nation's top 30 squads, the 10th-ranked Demon Deacons held off a final round charge from No. 27 Yellow Jackets. Third-ranked Oklahoma State was third at 9-over, two shots back. No. 18 Texas and No. 12 LSU tied for fourth place at 12-over, five shots behind the Deacs.

Will Zalatoris and Eric Bae led the Demon Deacons to the title, both posting top-five finishes. Zalatoris was tied for individual runner-up at 1-under after a final round 70. Bae shot a final round 73 to finish the event at even par, tied for fourth place.

Cameron Young had a strong final round, shooting even par 71 to finish at 6-over, tied for 25th place. Paul McBride finished tied for 20th place at 5-over after a final round 74. Lee Detmer closed out the Deacon lineup, finishing the tournament at 10-over.

"That was a battle and the players were awesome today," said head coach Jerry Haas. "It was a really hard last hole and Paul made a 30-footer for birdie, which proved to be huge. It went right down to the end. We hit a lot of good shots, but our scores weren't indicative of how well we played today. It is always nice to win a great event like this against this strong of a field. It was a great experience for our team. Wake Forest can be proud of how these young men represent their university."

The Demon Deacons won the General Hackler Championship earlier in the month, marking the third straight season the team has posted victories in consecutive tournaments. Wake Forest also won the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational in September to give the Deacs three wins this season and 10 victories in the last three seasons combined.

Wake Forest will return to action April 1-2 with the 3M Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
