No. 3 Deacs Outlast No. 41 TCU, 4-3

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The third-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team was pushed to the wire on Monday, March 6, as the Demon Deacons outlasted 41st-ranked TCU, 4-3, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (11-1) were pushed to the limit by the Horned Frogs (5-4), as Monday's competition came down to a pair of three set matches on courts 2 and 3. Skander Mansouri, ranked eighth in the country dropped his first set on court 2, 6-4, before responding with a 7-5 victory in the second set to force a third set. Over on the third court, Borna Gojo responded from a first set loss (7-5) with a 6-4 decision in the second set to push his match to the limit.
Both players were tied up at 4-all in the third set when Gojo held serve to go up 5-4. The freshman then broke No. 112 Guillermo Nuñez to clinch the 6-4 victory and the match for the Deacs. With the match in hand, play continued in the No. 2 spot, where Mansouri ultimately fell 6-4 in the third set.
Wake Forest's victory was put into motion early in the day, as the Deacs claimed the doubles point. The Deacs' top-ranked duo of Mansouri and Christian Seraphim set the tone with a 6-2 victory on court 1. Petros Chrysochos and Dennis Uspensky sealed the point with a 6-2 decision in the No. 3 slot.
The Horned Frogs quickly evened the score at 1-all, as 19th-ranked Cameron Norrie upset top-ranked Chrysochos on the top court. Uspensky put the Deacs back in front down on court 5 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
After TCU regained the lead with a victory in the no. 4 slot, Alan Gadjiev put Wake Forest back in the lead after cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court 6, setting up the down to the wire finish.
Following seven consecutive matches away from home, the Demon Deacons return home to face North Carolina on Friday, March 10. First serve in Winston-Salem is set for 1 p.m.
