
Deacs Earn 13 Top-Five Finishes in Saturday Competition

 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track programs claimed one event title and 13 top-five finishes on the final day of competition at the Charlotte Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
Tesia Kempski cleared a personal-best height of 3.90m (12' 9.5") to claim the women's Pole Vault event. She replaced her previous best height of 3.80m that she had achieved earlier this season at the Bob Davidson Spring Kick-Off.
Also in the field on the women's side, Amy Collins claimed two top-five finishes with a second-place finish in the High Jump and a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump. Collins cleared the 1.65m (5' 5") bar in the High Jump while achieving a mark of 5.51m (18' 1") in the Long Jump. Also in the Long Jump, Jordan Banks finished 12th with a best mark of 5.22m (17' 1.5").
Alva Hicks took second place in the women's Discus with a mark of 45.02m (147' 8") and then finished sixth in the Hammer Throw with a best throw of 52.35m (171' 9").
On the track for the women, Emma Gallagher ran a personal best time of 1:03.08 for a second-place finish in the 400m Hurdles. Madeline Ward finished 13th in the event with a time of 1:09.52.
Maya Hinton finished 14th with a time of 59.36 in the open 400m while Collins and Banks earned 12th and 19th place in the 100m Hurdles, both with personal best times of 14.85 and 15.74, respectively.
The women closed out the Charlotte Invitational with a third-place finish in the 4x400 Relay. The team consisting of Hinton, Gallagher, Banks and Collins ran a time of 3:51.87.
On the men's side, the Demon Deacons dominated the men's 800m event. Sebastian Fischbach ran a two-second personal best to earn second place at 1:52.66. John Archie and Dakota Greenwalt also shaved two seconds off their previous best times to finish in third and fourth place. Archie ran a time of 1:52.95 while Greenwalt went 1:54.57. Nicholas Beglane ran an outdoor best time of 1:56.57 for fifth place. In their first outdoor 800m events, Angelious Vasileiou, Robbie Barr and Alex Delgado finished 11th, 12th and 15th, respectively.
In their first-ever 200m events, Josh Okonye and Jalen Latter finished 13th and 17th with times of 22.49 and 22.89. In the open 400m, Kaleb Bryant set a personal best with his 10th-place finish and 49.61 time.
In the men's 400m Hurdles, Bobby Jacowleff finished 13th with a time of 55.33 and Nicholas Beglane finished 17th with a time of 58.32.
In the relay events, Jacowleff, Robert Heppenstall, Archie and Bryant ran the fastest time by a Wake Forest 4x400m squad this season at 3:19.80, good for third place. The men's 4x100m squad consisting of Bryant, Latter, Okonye and John Armstrong earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 42.20.
In the field on the men's side, Max Adams finished second in the Discus with a best mark of 51.41m (168' 8") and ninth in the Shot Put with a throw of 15.37m (50' 5.25").
On the West Coast, Jen Esposito finished 15th in the 400m Hurdles Invitational event with a time of 1:00.55 at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Up next, the Demon Deacons head to the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. on April 21-22.
