Wake Forest Set to Host Big South Tennis Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest athletic department, in conjunction with the Big South Conference, is set to host the Big South Tennis Championships, held April 19-23, at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
The men's championship will see all eight teams open quarterfinal action on Wednesday, April 19, with a champion being crowned on Friday, April 21. Presbyterian claimed the No. 1 seed and its second regular season title in program history with a 6-1 conference record.
The nine-team women's championship will open with the No. 8 seed Longwood taking on No. 9 seed Radford in the opening round on Thursday, April 20. The winner will advance onto Friday's quarterfinal against overall top seed Winthrop. The Eagles finished the season in a three-way tie for first at 7-1 and earned the No. 1 seed due to tiebreaker procedures
Play on the men's side will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Semifinals will be played at noon on Thursday and the championship match will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday. The women will begin play at 9 a.m. on each of the first three days of their tournament, with the championship match set for noon on Sunday. The winner of the men's and women's championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tennis Championship.
The Big South Championships will provide Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest Tennis Complex an opportunity to prepare for next year, when the Demon Deacons host the 2018 NCAA Tennis Championships.
