WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The top-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team cruised through a pair of matches Sunday as the Demon Deacons defeated Miami and North Carolina A&T in a doubleheader at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
In the opening match of the day, the Deacs swept the Hurricanes (6-9, 0-6 ACC), 7-0, before finishing the day against the Aggies. North Carolina A&T (0-13) earned a pair of victories, one of which was by way of default, as the Demon Deacons (20-1, 7-0 ACC) walked away with a 5-2 victory.

Wake Forest opened play Sunday with a pair of victories on courts 2 and 3 to claim the doubles point against the Hurricanes. Petros Chrysochos and Dennis Uspensky took care of business on the third court, claiming a 6-2 decision over the duo of Langmo/Bondar. After Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim fell on the top court, Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev were pushed to a tiebreaker, which they ultimately took, 7-4, to clinch the doubles point for Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons dominated singles play, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Chrysochos earned his second victory over a ranked opponent this weekend as he topped No. 73 Piotr Lomacki, 6-2, 6-1. Gadjiev followed moments later in the sixth slot, picking up a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Seraphim clinched the match for the Deacs with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 5.
With the match in hand, Mansouri extended the lead with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. Gojo was pushed to a tiebreaker as well in the second set, but prevailed with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win. Uspensky saw his match at No. 4 singles go to three sets, but the sophomore rebounded after dropping the second set to win, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
#1 Wake Forest 5, North Carolina A&T 2
Wake Forest's 5-2 victory over North Carolina A&T was highlighted by the collegiate debut of freshman Charles Parry. Parry teamed up with Uspensky at the No. 3 doubles slot and secured a win in his first collegiate match, leading the No. 3 doubles team to a 7-6 (10-8) victory. The victory was the third of three doubles victories for the Deacs, as the duos of Seraphim/Gadjiev and Mansouri/Maksim Kan won by 7-5 margins on the top-two courts, respectively.
The Demon Deacons were forced to concede the point at No. 6 singles, as Wake Forest only had five players available. Gojo was unavailable (rest) and both Mansouri and Chrysochos had to leave following doubles play. The two players will be representing their respective country in an upcoming Davis Cup, as Mansouri and Tunisia will take on Chrysochos and Cyprus next weekend in Cyprus.
Following the concession at 6, the Deacs won four consecutive matches to go up 5-1. The new-look lineup saw Seraphim win at No. 1 in his first-ever match in the top slot, 6-1, 6-0. Uspensky moved up to No. 2 for the first time this season and claimed a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Gadjiev won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 position and Kan, playing in just his second singles match this season, won his match at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Parry took to the No. 5 slot for the first time in his career and battled in a three-set match. After taking the first set, 6-2, Parry dropped the second 6-3 to force a deciding 10-point tiebreaker. Parry couldn't rally in the tiebreaker, falling 10-5.
Wake Forest has the week off from competition before returning to action for its final two home matches of the regular season on April 14 and 16 with ACC matches against Florida State and Louisville.
