Deacs Blank Wolfpack in ACC Quarterfinals

ROME, GA. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team opened its title defense at the ACC Men's Tennis Championships with a 4-0 victory over NC State in the quarterfinals Friday morning at the Rome Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (26-1), the top seed in the tournament, will advance into the semifinals where they will meet either No. 4 Georgia Tech or No. 5 Duke.
Wake Forest opened its play against the Wolfpack (14-15) in doubles play, where the Deacs picked up victories on the first and third court to secure the doubles point. Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim, the top doubles team in the country, cruised to a 6-1 decision over the No. 46 duo of Ogden and Galarneau. The Deacs then clinched the point at No. 3 doubles, where Petros Chrysochos and Dennis Uspensky picked up a 6-3 victory.
Alan Gadjiev and Borna Gojo, who once trailed their match at No. 2, 4-1, climbed back to even the match at 4-all before play was suspended.
In singles, the Deacs jumped out early on the Wolfpack, winning all six first sets. Seraphim, ranked 75th in the county, picked up the first victory of singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 5. Moments later, Uspensky made it 3-0 on the fourth court with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Chrysochos, No. 4 in the country in singles, clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over No. 86 Alexis Galarneau.
All remaining matches with unfinished with the Deacs up a set and leading or tied in the second set on all three courts.
The Deacs semifinal match against the winner of Georgia Tech and Duke is set for a 10 a.m. first serve on Saturday, April 29. The match will be streamed live online on ACC Network Extra.
