Deacs Fall in ACC Quarterfinals

ROME, GA. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team's run in the ACC Women's Tennis Championships came to an end Friday in the quarterfinals, as the No. 6 seed Deacs fell to No. 3 seed Georgia Tech, 4-0.
The Demon Deacons (18-10) battled in doubles play, nearly stealing the point from the Yellow Jackets (24-3). After the No. 2 duo of Chandler Carter and Courtney Meredith fell to the 23rd-ranked doubles team in the country, Wake Forest found itself in a battle in the first and third positions. At No. 3 doubles, Emma Davis and Luisa Fernandez couldn't overcome an early break, and ultimately fell, 6-4, to give Georgia Tech the doubles point.
The duo of Kimmy Guerin and Anna Ulyashchenko, ranked 70th in the country, were tied at 4-all against Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones, ranked 39th, when play was suspended.
In singles action, Georgia Tech held onto its lead to close out the Deacs. Samantha Asch, Kimmy Guerin and Chandler Carter all fell to clinch the match for the Yellow Jackets. The remaining three courts went unfinished.
The Demon Deacons now await word on a potential bid into the NCAA Tournament. The tournament field will be announced on May 2nd at 5:30 p.m.
