WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest assistant women's soccer coach Megan Jessee has accepted a head coaching position at Rhode Island.
Jessee spent nine seasons as an assistant with the Demon Deacons, primarily overseeing the goalkeepers.
"I would like to thank Tony da Luz, he has been a great mentor and friend during my time at Wake," Jessee said. "I am going to miss all the players and staff that I have created great relationships with at Wake Forest. It is bittersweet to be leaving a great place like Wake Forest. However I am excited for my future at Rhode Island."
Jessee helped the Deacs reach six-straight NCAA Tournaments, including a College Cup berth in 2011 and an ACC title in 2010.
"Megan has worked tirelessly here at Wake these past 9 years and deserves the opportunity to lead her own program," Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz said. "She has been a positive force behind the scenes here and she will be greatly missed by players and staff members throughout the department. I have full confidence that Megan will be a successful head coach, leading the Rhode Island program to consistent success. I am grateful for her dedication and I will miss her unwavering support and loyalty. I am happy to see her reach her dream."
Jessee helped Wake Forest goalkeepers post 86 total shutouts during her tenure, including a program-record 15 in 2009. She oversaw the development of All-American keeper Aubrey Bledsoe, as well.
"I am very excited to be the new head coach of Rhode Island women's soccer," Jessee added. "After playing at UConn and growing up in Pennsylvania, I couldn't be more excited to get back to my roots in the Northeast. The women's soccer program has a history of success and I look forward to helping the Rams return to national prominence."
Rhode Island finished the 2016 season with a 6-8-5 overall record and 3-4-3 mark in the Atlantic 10.
