GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest redshirt sophomore Bruce Steel was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Steel's selection marks the seventh time a Demon Deacon has been honored in the ACC weekly awards, matching a program record. He joins Gavin Sheets (twice), Connor Johnstone (twice), Stuart Fairchild and Parker Dunshee.
Wake Forest also had seven honorees in 1999: Jon Palmieri (three times), Mike MacDougal (three times) and Danny Borrell.
Last week, Steel totaled three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs, leading Wake Forest to its first series win in Tallahassee over Florida State since 1993.
The Jupiter, Florida native recorded his first-career multi-homer game in Sunday's 10-9 victory, also recording a career-high five RBIs.
As the starting shortstop, Steel has also gone 24 straight games without committing an error, helping the Deacs match their program record with 17 ACC wins.
Steel shared the honor with Louisville's Colby Fitch, while Florida State's Tyler Holton was named Pitcher of the Week.
Wake Forest is back in action on Tuesday, taking on App State at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina, at 6 p.m.
