SUGAR GROVE, Ill -- Wake Forest sophomore Jennifer Kupcho was named a first team All-American Tuesday (May 23) by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. She becomes the fifth Demon Deacon to earn first team All-America honors. In addition, senior Sierra Sims earned honorable mention All-America honors.
Kupcho capped the best season in Wake Forest history on Monday with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championship. Her sophomore season featured three victories, three runner-up finishes and a top-10 finish in all but one tournament. Her scoring average of 70.61 set a school record, breaking the previous mark of 73.09 set by Sims two seasons ago. This spring Kupcho set a school record with 12 consecutive rounds under par.
Kupcho, who was an honorable mention WGCA All-American as a freshman, joins Brenda Corrie (1986), Stephanie Neill (1993, 1994, 1995), Laura Philo (1996, 1997) and Ashley Hoagland (2005) as the only first-team All-Americans in program history.
Sims was named an All-American for the second time, having been a second-team selection in 2014-15. Her 72.20 scoring average was the second best in program history, trailing only Kupcho, as she posted two top-five and seven top-10 finishes during her senior season.
