ATHENS, Ga. - Peyton Perea scored the game-winner in the 39th minute as Wake Forest defeated Georgia, 1-0, in the season opener at the Turner Soccer Complex.
Perea, who led the Demon Deacons in goals last season, tallied her ninth career goal off a sharp cross from Estelle Laurier after a through ball from Bayley Feist to put the Demon Deacons (1-0) on the board. Laurier's assist was her first as a Deac, as she redshirted last season.
Lindsay Preston was solid in goal, saving all five of the shots on goal she faced to earn her 11th career solo shutout.
The Bulldogs (0-1) outshot the Deacs, 11-9, including 5-4 on target. Feist led the Deacs with two shots on goal while Feist, Perea and Claudia Day each recorded two shots.
Up next, Wake Forest will face Davidson at the Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C. on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. The Deacs will then return to Spry Stadium for their home-opener on Aug. 24 against South Carolina.
