
Wake Forest Shuts Down Davidson, 4-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Led by two goals from freshman Hannah Betfort, the Wake Forest women's soccer team defeated Davidson, 4-0, Sunday afternoon.
Betfort recorded two first-half goals for the Demon Deacons (2-0) while Maddie Huster and Reci Smith tallied two more in the second half to give the Deacs a 4-0 victory.
Betfort put the Deacs on the board in the 12th minute with the assist from Sarah Medina. Just six minutes later, Betfort doubled the lead after netting a loose ball off a save, assisted by Peyton Perea.
Huster found the net in the 60th minute with a direct shot to the far post with assists from Estelle Laurier and Abby McNamara while Smith capped the scoring with a straight shot in the box in the 86th minute, assisted by Madison Hammond.
The Demon Deacons held Davidson (1-1) without a shot for the first 44:59 minutes of gameplay. The Deacs outshot the Wildcats 17-3, including a 10-2 advantage on goal. Bayley Feist and Betfort led the Deacs with three shots each while Smith and Ally Haran recorded two each.
Lindsay Preston and Nonie Frishette combined for the Deacon shutout. Preston started in goal for the Deacs and recorded one save. Nonie Frishette played the second half and faced just one shot.
A total of 23 Demon Deacons saw action, led by freshman Vicky Krug with 82 minutes.
Up next, the Demon Deacons turn their sights to the Aug. 24 home-opener against South Carolina at 7 p.m.
