WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat Pitt, 2-0, in the ACC opener Friday night at Spry Stadium.

The victory was the first win for the Demon Deacons (7-1-1, 1-0) in an ACC opener since a 1-0 victory over NC State on Sept. 21, 2014.

Sofia Rossi and Maddie Huster each recorded their third goals of the season in the victory.

Rossi broke open the scoring in the 56th minute when she beat the keeper on the far post. Vicky Krug recorded the assist as she fed Rossi the ball with a long pass.

Huster doubled the lead in the 70th minute off a free kick from 25 yards out that sailed to the far post.

The Deacs held the Panthers (3-4-2, 0-1) to just three shots during the contest, two of which were on goal. Lindsay Preston managed the save on both shots on goal.

Wake Forest recorded 21 shots, a season-high for the team. The Demon Deacons also held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Bri Carney led the offensive attack with four shots while Bayley Feist totaled three shots, one of which was on goal. Huster had two shots on goal while Claudia Day and Sarah Medina each had one shot on target.

Up next, the Deacs head north to take on Syracuse on Sept. 21 and Boston College on Sept. 24.
