SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Hannah Betfort's goal in the 31st minute proved to be the difference as No. 18 Wake Forest defeated Syracuse by a 1-0 margin Thursday night at the SU Soccer Stadium.

Wake Forest (8-1-1, 2-0-0 ACC) recorded its seventh shutout of the season with the victory over Syracuse (5-3-1, 0-1-0 ACC), matching the seven shutouts recorded last season.

Betfort found the back of the net in the 31st minute off a cross from Vicky Krug to put the Deacs on the board, 1-0, in what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Betfort is now tied with Bayley Feist for the team-lead in goals with four.

The Deacs out-shot the Orange 14-5, including a 10-1 advantage in shots in the first half. The Deacon defense kept the Orange without a shot on goal until the second half.

Lindsay Preston was solid in goal, recording three saves and her fourth solo shutout of the season.

Up next, Wake Forest will face Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
