The Matchups:
- The Deacs begin their ACC schedule this Friday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. with a trip to Duke
- On Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m., the team returns home to host Clemson in their ACC home opener.
Last Time Out:
- The Deacs won their opening match at the Penn State Classic, defeating Ohio, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 15.
- In their first Saturday match, the team's four-match winning streak was snapped with a 3-0 loss at No. 2 Penn State. The Demon Deacons also fell, 3-0, to Yale in their tournament finale.
Wake Forest Storylines:
- Wake Forest sits at 8-4, one away from matching their win total from 2016.
- Freshman Caroline Kuhn and sophomore Caroline Rassenfoss were named to the Penn State Classic All-Tournament Team.
- The Deacs have been strong defensively in 2017, as they rank third in the ACC in opponents hitting percentage (.177) and second in the league in blocks per set (2.73). The Deacs lead the conference in with 31 solo blocks this season.
- Caroline Rassenfoss is second in the ACC with 18 service aces.
- The Deacs have had more or an equal number of blocks than their opponents in 11 of their 12 matches this season.
Scouting the Opponents:
- Duke finished off its nonconference slate with an 8-3 record. The Blue Devils fell, 3-1, last Saturday, Sept. 16 to Loyola Marymount in their final tuneup before ACC competition.
- Duke concluded 2016 with a 21-9 record, including a 15-5 mark in the ACC. The Blue Devils are led this season by freshman outside hitter Payton Schwantz, who paces the team with 134 kills. Schwantz was named ACC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 11.
- Clemson is off to a 5-7 start to its 2017 season. After opening the season with three straight wins, the Tigers dropped seven of their last nine nonconference matches.
- Clemson is under the direction of first-year head coach Michaela Franklin. The Tigers finished last season with a 6-26 overall record and a 1-19 mark in the ACC.
Looking Ahead:
- The Deacs host a a pair of matches next weekend, starting Friday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. against Boston College.
- Then, on Sunday, Oct. 1, the Deacs host the Syracuse Orange at 1 p.m.
