Deacs Advance at ITA Masters, Gator Ranked +1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's tennis team was in action at two separate tournaments Friday (Sept. 22) with Petros Chrysochos competing at the Oracle ITA Masters and a trio of Deacs beginning play at the Gator Ranked +1 tournament.

In Malibu, California, Chrysochos, the No. 1 seed in the field, drew a battle from Adam Moundir of Old Dominion in the Round of 16 at the Oracle ITA Masters. Moundir, ranked 35th nationally, took the first set from Chrysochos in a tiebreaker, 7-6(6). Chrysochos ranked third in the preseason polls evened the match at 1-all with a 6-2 victory in the second set and closed out the match with by a 6-3 margin in the third set.

The victory moved Chrysochos into the quarterfinals where he drew the No. 8 seed, Billy Griffith. Chrysochos jumped out to an early lead over Griffith, ranked 49th in the country, before closing out the first set with a 6-4 victory. The junior then punched his ticket to the semifinals with a 6-2 victory in the second set. In the semifinals, Chrysochos will face either fourth-seeded Michael Geerts of Arizona State or 14th seeded Victor Pham of Columbia.

Elsewhere, action began at the Gator Ranked +1 with freshman Yuval Solomon highlighting the day of competition in Gainesville. Solomon was placed in the Orange Draw where he drew No. 1 seed and seventh-ranked Alfredo Perez in the opening round. Yuval completed the upset with a straight-sets victory, 7-6(4), 6-3. He then won his second match of the day over a ranked opponent when he defeated No. 5-8 seed and 74th-ranked Chris Morin-Kougoucheff of Louisville, 6-4, 6-4. Solomon is set to take on Duarte Vale of Florida in the semifinals on Saturday.

Christian Seraphim was the No. 3 seed in the Orange Draw, but dropped his opening-round match to Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State, 6-2, 6-4. The senior rebounded with a victory over Brandon Lancaster of Louisville in the consolation draw, 6-1, 7-6(4), to advance to the consolation semifinals where he will face Jake Stefanik of Kentucky.

Bar Botzer was placed in the Blue Draw of the Gator Ranked +1 where he fell to No. 4 seed (62nd-ranked) Trey Yates of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-1. Botzer responded with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Chase Perez-Blanco, the No. 5-8 seed and ranked 105th nationally. He will face Luis Erlenbusch of Tulane in the consolation semifinals.

Seraphim and Bozter teamed up in the Orange Doubles draw as the No. 3 seed, but fell 8-6 to the duo of Jubb/Rakic. They will face Schmitz/Moore of Tulane in the consolation semis. Solomon paired with Stefanik of Kentucky in the blue doubles draw where they dropped their first match, 8-4.

Action will continue at both tournaments on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
