Wake Forest Tops No. 14 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Wake Forest women's tennis team rallied for the second day in a row and defeated No. 14 Ohio State, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
The Demon Deacons (4-0) rebounded from dropping the doubles point and won four out of five singles matches to secure the win.
The Buckeyes (1-1) raced out to an early lead due to a dominating doubles performance. They won, 6-0, at no. 1 before clinching the point with a 6-2 win at no. 3.
However, the Deacs quickly took back the momentum with a strong start to singles competition. Anna Ulyashchenko clinched first at no. 4, winning, 6-1, 6-4 to tie the score. Then, Mary Caroline Meredith gave Wake Forest a 2-1 lead with a two-set win at no. 6.
After Ohio State tied the match at 2-2 with a win at no. 2, Chandler Carter outlasted Olivia Sneed at no. 3 to put the Deacs within one point of clinching the victory.
In the no. 1 spot, Emma Davis roared back after dropping the first set to win the second set, 6-0. In a hard-fought third set, Davis prevailed, 7-5, in the tiebreaker to give Wake Forest the victory.
Overall, it is the team's second-straight victory over a top-20 opponent, after defeating No. 18 Arkansas, 4-2, on Saturday.
With the win, the Demon Deacons have earned a spot at the ITA National Indoor Championships, held Feb. 9-12 in Madison, Wis.
