CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team fell to Boston College, 77-71, Saturday afternoon at the Conte Forum.
The Demon Deacons fell to 8-7 on the year, including 1-2 in the ACC while Boston College upped its record to 11-5 and 2-2 in the conference.
Bryant Crawford recorded a season-high 24 points, his team-leading fourth 20-point game this season. He also finished with four assists, moving him to the No. 10 spot in career assists with 385.
Chaundee Brown totaled 20 points, just one shy of his career high of 21. It was his first double-figure game since he scored 16 against Quinnipiac on November 18. Brown went 6-for-7 from the 3-point line, a career mark that replaces the three triples he scored against Georgia Southern.
Mitchell Wilbekin also finished in double figures for the Deacs with 11 points, his second consecutive double-figure outing.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but a quick pair of 3-pointers from Brown and Crawford gave the Deacons their first lead of the afternoon. Brown got hot in the field for the Deacs, scoring on three consecutive possessions to give Wake Forest an eight-point lead with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. Boston College then took advantage of a Wake Forest scoring drought to tie the game 23-all before the Deacs were once again able to extend their lead to five. However, the Eagles used a run to tie the game at 28-all and take a 31-30 lead with just over two minutes to go. Down five, a triple from Brown and a tip-in from Donovan Mitchell tied the game at 35-all heading into halftime. It was the first time since 2012-13 that the Demon Deacons were tied at the half.
Boston College opened the second half on a 5-0 run to take an early 40-35 lead. The Deacs managed to cut the Eagles' lead down to one on multiple occasions but then went cold in the field, shooting 29 percent in the second half. Down 12 with five minutes to go, the Deacons rallied to cut the Eagles' lead down to five with 26.8 seconds to go, but ultimately fell 77-71.
Up next, the Demon Deacons return to the LJVM Coliseum to face Virginia Tech on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
