WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
The No. 2 Wake Forest men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 victory over Boston College Friday night at Spry Stadium. The Demon Deacons improved to 13-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the ACC with the win, while the Eagles fell to 4-4-3 overall and 2-4-0 in the conference.

Michael DeShields and Alistair Johnston scored for the Demon Deacons, who have scored at least two goals in all 13 victories this season.

With the game scoreless in the 30th minute, the contest changed when an altercation saw each side lose a player. Wake Forest's Bruno Lapa and Boston College's Joshua Forbes were both shown a red card and the game resumed with 10 players a side. Late in the first half, the Demon Deacons took a 1-0 lead on DeShields' first goal of the season. Sam Raben's cross was headed by Kyle Holcomb towards the far post before the loose ball in the box was headed in by DeShields.

Ten minutes into the second half the Eagles drew even. Heidar Aegisson's shot was saved by Andreu Cases Mundet, but the rebound went to Trevor Davock, who fired home the equalizer from the top of the box.

The Deacs retook the lead in the 75th minute as Aristotle Zarris got to the end line and slotted a cross that was one-timed in by Johnston for his second goal of the season. The Wake Forest defense held strong over the final 15 minutes to preserve the win, highlighted by DeShields heading away the would-be equalizer off the line after a late Boston College corner kick.

"I thought in the first half we responded well after the ejections," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "It was unfortunate for the game, but it was a physical game and I give Boston College a lot of credit. They imposed their will on our team tonight. We were against it more than we have been all year. The way that the guys persevered and got through it and got the goal that we needed in the end."

Overall, Boston College outshot Wake Forest 18-7 and had an 8-4 corner kick edge. Cases Mundet made four saves for the Deacs, while Antonio Chavez Borrelli made one save for the Eagles.

The Demon Deacons return to action on Oct. 16 with a visit to South Carolina.
