FORT WORTH, Texas – The Wake Forest men's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club. The Demon Deacons shot a 2-over 282 for the third consecutive day and finished the tournament in third place at 6-over.
Duke won the title at 2-under, with Vanderbilt finishing as runner-up at 4-over. The Deacs were third at 6-over, finishing ahead of six teams currently ranked in the top 20 of the Golfweek Coaches Poll.
"We had it going early today, but unfortunately did not finish well," said head coach Jerry Haas. "This tournament had a NCAA caliber field and we were in contention until the very end. It was great to see a young team learning and playing excellent golf together on a very difficult course."
Eric Bae posted his second straight top-five finish, shooting a final round 71 to end the tournament at 2-under, tied for fifth place. Kengo Aoshima had the low round of the day for the Deacs with a 2-under 68 to end the tournament T-10th at 1-under, his second straight top-10 finish.
Cameron Young finished the tournament at 1-over after posting a final-round 71. Marco Steyn shot 72 on Tuesday to end the tournament at 8-over. Eugenio Chacarra rounded out the Wake Forest lineup with a final-round 74.
The Demon Deacons return to action October 19-21 with the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in suburban Atlanta.
