Wake Forest one shot off the lead after 36 holes at elite event

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Wake Forest men's golf team continued its strong play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate during Saturday's second round. The No. 11 Demon Deacons shot 7-under in the second round to finish the day in second place at 19-under, one shot off the lead.
In an event that features seven of the top 15 teams in the nation, No. 15 Clemson is the 36-hole leader at 20-under. The Demon Deacons are at 19-under, followed by No. 10 USC at 18-under, No. 3 Georgia Tech at 17-under and No. 5 Alabama at 12-under.
"Collectively, we played very well today," said associate head coach Aaron O'Callaghan. "We were able to build momentum throughout the round and move up the leaderboard. Shooting 7-under puts us in fantastic position. All of the guys are excited and are looking forward to being competitive tomorrow."
Alex Fitzpatrick was the low Deac on Saturday, posting a 3-under 69. He is 2-under for the tournament. Kengo Aoshima shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday to finish the day at 7-under, tied for third on the individual leaderboard. Cameron Young also shot 2-under on Saturday, finishing the day at 1-under.
Eugenio Chacarra remains in the individual top 10, T-8th at 6-under following an even par second round. Eric Bae is 1-under for the tournament after a second round 73.
The Golf Club of Georgia concludes Sunday in suburban Atlanta.
