No. 5 Pitt Tops Wake Forest Volleyball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Despite hitting .240 in the match and .265 in the third set, fifth-ranked and undefeated Pittsburgh (23-0, 11-0 ACC) defeated Wake Forest (8-15, 3-8 ACC) in three sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-17) on Friday night at Reynolds Gym.
Caitlyn Della and Caroline Rassenfoss each posted 10 kills for the Deacs, while Madeline Holt added 28 assists and two kills.
The Panthers posted .390 hitting percentage, led by Stephanie Williams and Nika Markovic with 11 kills each. Williams recorded a double-double adding 10 digs. The Panthers got off to a hot start, recording a .458 percentage in the first set with four blocks to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Deacons rallied back in the second set and held on to a lead in most of the frame until a late run by Pitt put the Panthers up 2-0. Wake Forest took a four point, 17-12 lead in the middle of the frame, it's largest lead of the night, but Pittsburgh slowly crept back in to take set two 25-22. Four Deacs hit above .500 in the set led by Caroline Kuhn and Holt who went perfect in the frame. Wake Forest also recorded four blocks in the second set.
Pitt sealed the victory to remain undefeated with a 25-17 decision in the third set. The Deacons posted their most efficient set at the net matching the Panthers' 13 kills, but a fiery Pitt offense answered back with .345 hitting percentage and three blocks to clinch the three setter.
Wake Forest will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 28 against Virginia. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
