The Deacs scored a second-half goal to cut the deficit to 2-1, but were unable to put away the equalizer.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Wake Forest mounted a second-half rally, but came up short in a 2-1 loss at No. 10 Florida State at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
After trailing 2-0 at the break, the Demon Deacons (6-6-1, 2-4-0) cut the deficit in half with a 59th-minute own goal.
The Deacs held a 6-4 advantage in shots in the second half after the Seminoles (10-3-1, 3-3-0 ACC) had control of the first half with a 10-1 lead.
Perhaps Wake Forest's best opportunity to even the score came in the 64th minute. Estelle Laurier and Bayley Feist both had shots saved by the FSU keeper, then Mariah Lee had an effort off the rebound which was deflected away by a defender.
Nonie Frishette saved eight of the 10 shots on goal she faced to keep Wake Forest in the game. Florida State's goals came from Kristina Lynch in the fifth minute and Yujie Zhao in the 29th.
The Deacs have now played four-consecutive ranked ACC opponents. On Friday at 5 p.m., Wake Forest will take on a 10-3 Louisville team at Spry Stadium on RSN.
