Syracuse Tops Wake Forest 3-1 in Season Finale

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Wake Forest jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Syracuse Orange won three straight sets to earn the 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16) victory on Saturday in the Deacons' final game on the season.
Katie Moore and Caitlyn Della led the charge for Wake Forest with 10 kills a piece. Madeline Holt tallied 40 assists and Hailey Brooke McFadden gathered 16 digs.
Wake Forest took command early. After dropping the first few points, the Deacons tied the match at 3-3 and maintained the lead for the rest of the opening set. Katie Moore sparked the offense for the Deacons with four kills and a block, while Saunders added three kills.
Syracuse evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 decision in the second frame. The Orange capitalized on 10 errors from the Demon Deacons as the momentum shifted to the home side of the court.
Both sides put up 12 kills in the third frame, but Syracuse was more efficient, hitting .162 to take the 2-1 match lead with a close 25-21 decision. Moore recorded a match-high five kills in the set, but Syracuse was able to find answers to keep the Deacons at bay.
The Orange closed the match hitting .400 behind eight kills from Santita Ebangwese who leads the ACC in hitting percentage.
Wake Forest finishes the 2018 campaign with a 10-20 overall record and a 5-13 mark in ACC play.
