WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest senior Jennifer Kupcho earned her 2019 LPGA Tour card with a runner-up finish at the LPGA Q-Series event in Pinehurst, N.C. Kupcho will defer her status until after the spring semester to complete her senior season with the Demon Deacons.
"Going into the Q-Series, I always knew I was going to come back to school," said Kupcho. "I didn't ever change my mind about that. People are still asking me if I'm sure and yes, I'm sure. I am looking forward to the spring season with my teammates."
Kupcho shot 17-under over the eight-round tournament to finish in second place, one shot behind the winner. The top 45 finishers at the event earned full status on the LPGA Tour in 2019, but collegiate players were given the option to defer their status until after the end of the 2018-19 collegiate season.
The 2018 NCAA Champion, Kupcho has twice been a first-team All-American at Wake Forest. Her junior season featured four victories and two other top-5 finishes as she finished under par in a school-record eight events. Her scoring average of 70.60 last season set a school record, breaking the previous mark of 70.61 that she set during her sophomore season. Kupcho tied her own school 54-hole scoring record with a 15-under performance to win the 2018 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, which included a school-record 8-under 64 in the second round.
"We are excited for Jennifer that she attained her 2019 LPGA card and are fortunate that she is choosing to delay her professional career until the end of our spring season," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "Our team had a productive fall season and we are looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish this spring."
Wake Forest will open the spring season in February in California with the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
