The Matchup
• The Wake Forest women's basketball team continues its three-game homestand to open the 2018-19 season on Friday, Nov. 9, against Mercer. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the LJVM Coliseum
Last Time Out
• The Deacs opened the 2018-19 campaign with a 60-53 victory over Towson on Tuesday evening.
• Ivana Raca, making her first career start, recorded a career-high in points (22) and rebounds (10), giving the sophomore her first-ever double-double. She was joined in double figures by Gina Conti (13) and Ona Udoh (10).
• Four freshmen made their Demon Deacon debuts, including Ellen Hahne who started her first-ever game as a Deac.
Wake Forest Storylines
• Senior Elisa Penna leads the Demon Deacons into the 2018-19 season, having been named to the preseason All-ACC team. Additionally, Penna was named to the Cheryl Miller Award watch list, presented to the top small forward in the country.
• Senior Ariel Stephenson will miss the entire season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. She became the third Deacon to miss the upcoming season, as Kortni Simmons and Destini Walker were both medically disqualified this summer.
• The team welcomes five newcomers to the roster in freshmen Kaylen Dickson, Ellen Hahne, McKenna Frank, Lindsey Jarosinski and Christina Morra.
Opponent & Series History
• Friday will be the fourth-ever meeting between the Deacs and the Bears, with Wake Forest owning a 4-1 advantage. Jen Hoover is 0-1 against Mercer, having faced them during her lone season as the head coach at High Point.
• The teams last met in the 2011-12 season with Wake Forest taking a 90-44 victory.
• Keke Calloway and Amanda Thompson were named preseason All-Conference, with Calloway being tabbed as the preseason Player of the Year in the SoCon. A year ago, Calloway averaged a team-best 16.9 points per game.
• The Bears, who are the preseason favorites to win their league, are led by ninth-year head coach Susie Gardner.
