DEACS HOST NORTH CAROLINA A&T IN 2018-19 SEASON OPENER
• Wake Forest begins the 2018-19 regular season with a matchup against North Carolina A&T in the Deacs' annual LJVM Classic game
• The game is the first of seven home non-conference games for the Demon Deacons
• Wake Forest is the last ACC team to tipoff the 2018-19 season (only 20 of 353 Division I teams will start the season later)
• The Deacs have won 14 straight games against in-state non-conference foes
• Since Wake Forest moved to Winston-Salem in the 1950s, the Deacs are undefeated (32-0) against their Piedmont Triad neighbors
(11-0 vs. UNCG, 8-0 vs. Elon, 5-0 vs. High Point, 4-0 vs. North Carolina A&T and 4-0 vs. Winston-Salem State)
SERIES HISTORY
• Wake Forest leads the all-time series 4-0, including a 3-0 mark at the LJVM Coliseum
• The teams have not played since the 2004-05 season when Justin Gray scored 23 points in a 98-76 Deacon victory
• The Deacs also won home games in 2002-03 and 2003-04 against the Aggies
• The teams first met in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament in Baltimore when Tim Duncan has 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 79-47 Wake Forest win
LJVM CLASSIC
• Today's game is the sixth annual LJVM Classic game, as Wake Forest honors active military and veterans on Veterans Day weekend
• The Deacs have won four of the five previous games, defeating VMI in 2013-14, UNC Asheville in 2014-15, UMBC in 2015-16 and Radford in 2016-17 before falling to Georgia Southern last year
• The game honors Winston-Salem's first and only Medal of Honor recipient, U.S. Army Sargeant First Class Lawrence Joel, who has long been recognized as a symbol of valor
• Active military, veterans and their families will receive free admission to the game
SEASON OPENERS
• The Demon Deacons begin their 112th season tonight
• Wake Forest is 80-31 in season openers, having won the last six of the last seven
• Since 1951-52, Wake Forest is 56-11 in home openers, including a 27-2 mark at the LJVM Coliseum
• The Deacons are opening the season at home for the 15th straight year
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest concluded the preseason with a 106-74 victory over Division II Belmont Abbey on Nov. 2
• Six Demon Deacons scored in double figures, led by Jaylen Hoard's 19 points
• Olivier Sarr posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds
• Wake Forest's newcomers scored 61 of the 106 points against the Crusaders
UP NEXT
• The Demon Deacons will compete next week in the inaugural Myrtle Beach Invitational
• Wake Forest opens the tournament on Thursday against Saint Joseph's, a team it hasn't played since the Hawks defeated the Deacs in the Sweet 16 of the 2004 NCAA Tournament
• The Deacs will play either UCF or Cal State Fullerton in their second game of the tournament on Friday
• All games of the tournament will air on the ESPN family of networks
• The tournament will be held at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina, a venue where the Deacs are 1-0 all-time having posted an 84-80 road win at Coastal last season
