HUMBLE, Texas – The Wake Forest men's golf team began its spring schedule Friday with the opening round of the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. The Demon Deacons shot 2-under with the first round to end the day tied for ninth place.
"It was a good start to the tournament," said head coach Jerry Haas. "The four guys who counted played very well and there were not a ton of bogeys. The course was there today if you were in the middle. For it being the first event of the spring, it isn't where we ultimately want to be, but there is room for improvement."
Wake Forest was led by Lee Detmer, who shot a 3-under round of 69 to finish the day T-12th. Paul McBride and Parker Gillam each shot even par 72 and Eric Bae added a first round 73. Marco Steyn rounded out the lineup with a 78.
The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at the Golf Club of Houston, which also host the Houston Open on the PGA Tour.
