No. 11 Wake Forest Drops Road Match at Clemson

ANDERSON, S.C. - The No. 11 Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped a road match, 4-3, to Clemson on Sunday afternoon in Anderson, South Carolina.
After dropping the doubles point, the Demon Deacons (6-2, 0-1 ACC)) and Tigers (4-3, 1-0 ACC)) split six singles matches, giving Clemson the 4-3 victory. No. 77 Emma Davis outlasted No. 15 Marie Leduc in three sets, while Mary Caroline Meredith and Anna Ulyashchenko each took their match in straight sets.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead by taking two out of three doubles matches. Clemson took the first match, 6-4, at No. 3. After Wake Forest's Davis and Alexis Franco won, 6-4, at No. 2, the Tigers took the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1.
Meredith evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 to begin singles play. However, Clemson answered with a 6-2, 6-3 win from Daniela Ruiz at No. 6 to hand the Deacs a 2-1 deficit with four matches remaining.
Wake Forest tied the match again with Davis's 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 win over No. 15 Marie Leduc at No. 1. Minutes later, Ulyashchenko gave the Demon Deacons a 3-2 lead by winning a second-set tiebreaker to win her match at No. 4.
The Tigers avoided defeat with a three-set victory at No. 4. Then, in the deciding match, Fernanda Navarro outlasted Eliza Omirou, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, to give the Tigers the 4-3 win.
Up next, the Demon Deacons will head to Montgomery, Alabama for the Blue Gray Classic, beginning next Friday, Feb. 23.
